CofferLok™ Metal Seal Rings

Pressure-Energized Metal-to-Metal Seals

Completely reusable alloy rings delivering zero-leak containment under extreme processing cycles.

1. Self-Energizing Design

Unlike flat soft gaskets that degrade as line pressure rises, the CofferLok metal seal ring utilizes system pressure to increase its contact force. Internal line pressure pushes against the inside wall of the ring, forcing the sealing lips tighter against the hub pockets.

2. Complete Reusability

Because CofferLok seal rings rely on elastic deformation rather than crush/plastic deformation, they do not experience permanent warping. They can be safely reused across dozens of piping maintenance turnarounds.

3. Severe Service Qualified

Forged from high-grade carbon steel, stainless steel, or nickel alloys, our seal rings operate securely in environments ranging from cryogenic temperatures up to 1,500°F (815°C) and pressures over 20,000 psi.

4. Specialized Coatings

Rings can be supplied with PTFE, silver plating, or zinc coatings to reduce installation friction, improve micro-sealing on minor hub scratches, and prevent galling in corrosive environments.

Eliminate Gasket Relaxation

Piping joints fail primarily due to gasket creep, relaxation, and thermal shock. The CofferLok metal-to-metal ring maintains a consistent, rigid contact area that is immune to thermal shock and process cycling.

Perfect for volatile air pollutants (VOC) lines, sour gas service, superheated steam, and offshore production pipelines where seal failures are unacceptable.

Seal Ring FAQ

How many times can a CofferLok metal seal ring be reused?
With proper cleaning and inspection, a single ring can be reused dozens of times. As long as the tapered seating faces of the ring are free of deep scratches, pitting, or deformation, the ring will seal perfectly.
How do I inspect the seal ring for reusability?
Crews perform a visual inspection for mechanical damage, scoring, or surface corrosion on the sealing lips. A dye-penetrant or dimensional check can also be performed during major turnarounds.
Do these rings require high bolt torque to establish a seal?
No. Unlike conventional API ring joints or ASME spiral-wound gaskets that require high torque to compress and crush the gasket, the CofferLok ring relies on system pressure to seal. Only nominal bolt torque is required during installation to achieve initial face contact.
