Taper-Lok® Swivel Flanges

Independent Bolt Hole Alignment

A two-piece flange assembly designed to simplify subsea and restricted space pipe bolt alignment.

1. Rotating Outer Ring

Taper-Lok® swivel flanges consist of an inner hub and an independent outer ring. The outer ring can rotate 360 degrees, allowing installation crews to align bolt holes without needing to turn the entire pipe spool.

2. Tolerates Offset

Designed with a spherical-nose interface, our swivel flanges can handle up to 3 degrees of angular piping misalignment while maintaining a 100% leak-tight seal throughout high-pressure operation.

3. Fast Subsea Make-up

Aligning heavy flanges underwater is a difficult and risky operation. By removing the need to line up rigid bolt circles, swivel flanges reduce diver and ROV fatigue, cutting subsea installation costs.

4. Pressure-Energized Ring

Includes Taper-Lok®'s signature wide-area metal seal ring. The self-energizing design uses internal pressure to increase contact force, keeping connections leak-free under dynamic loading.

Streamlined Tie-ins

Taper-Lok® swivel flanges are the industry preference for offshore riser hookups, pipeline tie-in manifolds, and floating vessel hull connections.

Qualified under major subsea design standards, they provide a reliable, long-life sealing solution that avoids expensive spool re-fabrication when layout tolerances drift.

Swivel Flange FAQ

How does a swivel flange compare to a standard weld neck flange?
A standard weld neck flange is a single piece; if the weld is misaligned by even a fraction of a degree, matching the bolt holes to the next flange is very difficult. A swivel flange has a separate outer ring that rotates freely, making bolt alignment simple.
Does the rotating ring affect the pressure rating?
No. The outer ring is held in place by a heavy shoulder on the weld hub. Once bolted together, the connection is fully pre-loaded, maintaining the exact pressure and structural rating of a rigid Taper-Lok® compact flange.
Can these be used for topsides piping?
Yes, although swivel flanges are primarily used for subsea and offshore applications where alignment is difficult, they are also used in complex topside systems to facilitate quick installation in tight spaces.
